Hotter than Hell...... October 14, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Tanya Huff- "Music Hath Charms"- A bit confusing and not interesting in the least.
Marjorie Liu "Minotaur in Stone"- Slow start and rocky middle. The story is a bit to romancey for me. The usage of Greek mythology is the redeeming factor that made this story a bit interesting. The sex was ok, just a bit weird though, being that she was having sex with a creature that has the head of a bull and the body of a man. Cheyenne McCray- "Demon Lover"- Exquisite story! Extremely sexy. Cheyenne really knows how to get you to connect with the characters and care for them. This story is about an incubus who falls in love. I'll stop there so I won't give anything away. The sex was hot and sensual. The scenes have a lot of sexual tention in them. No wam-bam here. This is the first time I've read anything thing from this author. Her story was so compelling that I will definitely check out her others books.
L.A. Banks- "Equinox" Just about as perfect a story as you are going to get. The story has a lot of subtle humor that I loved. I also loved the contrast between old times and modern times. I love how different cultures were used. Definitely something different from the norm.
Susan Krinard- "Ride A Dark Horse" Not really sure what to say about this one. It was mediocre at best. It's about dreams, a women, a horse, and a man.
Keri Arthur- "To Die For" Extremely intriguing and sexy. Keri sure knows how to tell a story. This story was about two paranormal agents. One a werewolf, the other a were shifter. The assignment they are given thrust them into more than danger. This story had it all; mystery, action, sexual tension and great sex. I have not read any of Keri's books but I definitely plan to pick one up in the near future.
Heidi Betts- "Curse of the Dragon Tears" This story was predictable but was still extremely interesting. Laura is on a quest that brings her to Scotland, land of her foremothers. She is on a quest to find the man, Dougal MacKay, her great-grandmother cursed 100 years ago. This was a great little story and will not disappoint.
Lilith Saintcrow- "Brother's Keeper" This is the first story that I have really liked from Lilith since the Dante Valentine series. Lilith always has great plots but for some reason her Jill Kismet drags out every moment and emotion. In this story Lilith delivers! I have always wanted Lilith to delve more into the sex-witches from the Dante Valentine series and couldn't be more thrilled with this terrific story. Hopefully we will hear more from Selene and Nokolai in the near future.
Susan Sizemore & Denise Little "(Like A) Virgin of the Spring" Just couldn't hold my interest.
Carrie Vaughn- "Life is the Teacher" Entrancing story. Disappointingly short because I wanted a lot more. Emma's a new vampire that experiences her first real feed.
Linda Winstead Jones- "Moonlight Becomes You" Charming little story. Claire suspects her next door neighbor of being a vampire. Little does she know he has his own secret suspicions for her as well.
Kim Harrison- "Dirty Magic" The return of Mia the banshee. A couple things have changed for Mia since we last heard about in her "Dates From Hell". Mia is now a mother of a beautiful daughter, has a husband and a lover......or so we think. This short story is full of twist. I didn't even see the end coming. Needless to say, I would love to see more of Mia in the near future.
I gave this book review 5-stars because the good stories more than make up for the few dull stories.

This is a totally exceptional collection of stories. I found them to be captivating. However, these are not stories that should be read by either children or Prudes.

Castle MacKay is supposedly haunted and Dougal MacKay is surprised to see a beautiful woman inside. Not only is she inside the Castle walls, but it looks like she might be staying the night. Unsure of what to do, Dougal remains hidden from sight because he knows exactly what will happen should he be seen - screaming in terror comes to mind since he has been cursed.
Laura Tomescu is at Castle MacKay for a reason. Her family had something to do with the curse placed on Dougal MacKay's head and for the past several years she has been dreaming of a man/beast bringing her to fulfillment. She feels herself being watched but does not give in to her fear and falls asleep only to once again dream of a fiery man and iridescent scales.
Heidi Betts has penned a hauntingly beautiful novella with Curse of the Dragon's Tears. Dougal was cursed for being too self-centered and unwilling to do anything for anyone else. He was cursed until such a time as he is able to forget his selfishness and act without thinking for the good of someone else. For years he has tried to get rid of the curse but until Lara, love didn't enter the picture keeping him spellbound to his land and Castle Mackay.
I ached with Dougal regarding his curse and loved Dougal with Lara's emotions. Curse of the Dragon's Tears was intense and highly sensual and being used to Heidi Betts' Silhouette releases, I was pleasantly surprised and very pleased with the sexuality of Curse of the Dragon's Tears.
Curse of the Dragon's Tears is part of the anthology titled Hotter than Hell and releases in July. Don't miss it!
